How To Clean Up An Oil Spill, ToC Style!

A few notes on Ed Kincer's fascinating presentation at May 10, 2011 MSUG General Membership Meeting

April 20, 2010- Two months after it began drilling off the Louisiana coast, Deepwater Horizon exploded and 2 days later sank into the Gulf of Mexico.  The event was among the largest accidental marine oil spills.  Media was consumed with stories of lives lost, environmental, economic, and social impacts.  Much less spotlight was given to the massive mobilization effort of people, materials, and resources to contain, clean, and "clean up the clean up" after the 152 days it took to permanently cap the well.

Lean, Six Sigma, PDCA

A not so warm March evening, warm Mexican cuisine combined with a hot topic to made for an excellent membership meeting.  Dr. Jayant Trewn (the presenter) from Beaumont University gave an invigorating talk on integrating the various aspects of process improvement techniques such as Lean, PDCA & Six Sigma.  The 18 attendees comprising a multitude of industry verticals had their intellectual fill on the topic.

Web-Site Relaunch Completed

Hi!  I'm Mike Allen and I'm the MSUG Steering Committee member responsible for looking after the web-site throughout 2009.

Last year, we discussed ways to make our web-site a little more useful to you, our members and to the simulation community in Michigan in general.  The result is our new, re-launched web-site.  As before, we'll use the site to announce events such as our General Membership Meetings and Annual Conferences, publish papers presented at these events, publish our newsletter, list simulation-related software, organizations and service providers and tell you about MSUG.  In addition, the new site provides some new features that we hope you will find useful too: news, blogs, discussion forums, job postings and opinion polls.  It's now also possible to search the site's content.

New MSUG Website Has Much Improved Content

There are so many new things that you can do on the new MSUG website that I don't know where to begin!
