Job Description & Qualifications

At Ford Motor Company, we believe freedom of movement drives human progress. We also believe in providing you with the freedom to define and realize your dreams. With our incredible plans for the future of mobility, we have a wide variety of opportunities for you to accelerate your career potential as you help us define tomorrow’s transportation.

The use of simulation is continuing to expand within global PTME to improve/increase up-front engineering of production facilities. Simulation is vital to assist with the verification of manufacturing processes and systems through application of standard Processes. Effective use of this tool requires niche expertise in software tools and application experience. Simulation is vital to ensure the accurate development and continuous improvement of these Processes. Use of the Theory of Constraints to optimize manufacturing systems and processes is a major part of this position.

What you’ll be able to do:

  • Use the Theory of Constraints and constraint analysis
  • Propose process layout for a program specific line using process flow diagrams.
  • Translate process flow and layouts into simulation tool and populate with data.
  • Write required AutoMod code to run simulations and reflect the control logic present in the system.
  • Collect actual or surrogate data from existing facilities (based on process) to populate simulation tool. This will include data collection using Alteryx; verification of data; sort and cleansing of data for inaccuracies; and format data for the model.
  • Interpret models for individual lines and total plant. This will include assessing the model accuracy, impact of input data variation, relationship of surrogate data to equipment specifications, and ensure input data accurately represents operational conditions.
  • Convey findings to the engineering team and management to discuss the encouraged output and any shortfalls that are present along with recommendation to alleviate those issues.
  • Ability to perform analysis and make recommended reasonable changes in the proposed machine/workstation/line/factory to enable system output meet the customer requirements.
  • Use throughput simulation tool to quantify JPH, identify constraints, and quantify loses.
  • Use throughput simulation tool and Theory of Constraints to optimize system, ensure JPH achieves target, constraint is in the accurate location, and investment efficiency is increased.
  • Some travel will be required to visualize constraints.

The minimum requirements we seek:

  • Bachelor of Science in Industrial or Electrical Engineering or closely related field of study
  • 1+ years’ experience using AutoMod Simulation Software
  • 5+ years of experience in Theory of Constraints, constraint identification, and efficiency improvement techniques.
  • 5 or more years of manufacturing experience
  • Six Sigma Black Belt or 5+ years’ experience with DOE techniques

Our preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Industrial or Electrical Engineering or Data Science
  • Strong understanding of statistics
  • Familiarity with Factory Data Collection Systems (Factory Information System) and the use of Alteryx to extract data
  • Understanding of material handling optimization including: Synchronous Material Flow, Lean Manufacturing Principles, Optimization of Material Flow, Personnel and Equipment Utilization, Dunnage and In-process Material Handling
  • Strong presentation and communication skills
  • Self-starting, self-directed, and the ability to work in a team setting

What you’ll receive in return:

As part of the Ford family, you’ll enjoy excellent compensation and a comprehensive benefits package that includes generous PTO, retirement, savings and stock investment plans, incentive compensation and much more. You’ll also experience exciting opportunities for professional and personal growth and recognition.

If you have what it takes to help us redefine the future of mobility, we’d love to have you join us.

Candidates for positions with Ford Motor Company must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire.
