Student Simulation Contest Now Accepting Entries

The Michigan Simulation User Group is looking to award a $500 scholarship for exemplary uses of discrete event simulation. This competition is open to students of any level (K-12, undergraduate and graduate) to submit their best/favorite/most interesting simulation project.

All submissions need to include a written report or slide presentation (ex: PowerPoint) with an explanation of the problem or challenge addressed in the simulation model, solution(s), and recommendations. All submissions must be accompanied by a signed letter from a sponsoring faculty member certifying all materials are the original work of the submitting student(s).

The final requirement is that the student or at least one member of the team be able to join us at the MSUG Conference to present their winning entry in order to be eligible.

What:

The Michigan Simulation User Group is looking for exemplary uses of discrete event simulation by current students who attend school in the state of Michigan. The MSUG Student Simulation Competition is intended to be an open competition for students at any level (K-12, undergraduate, graduate, etc.) to submit their best/favorite/most interesting discrete event simulation project.

All submissions should include a written report or slide presentation (ex: PowerPoint) with an explanation of the problem or challenge addressed in the simulation model, solution(s), and recommendations. Reports should be a maximum of 10 pages excluding the appendix.

All submissions must be accompanied by a signed letter from a sponsoring faculty member certifying all materials are the original work of the submitting student(s).

Who:

Open to anyone who is a current student at a Michigan school during the 2018/2019 or 2019/2020 school year.

When:

All entries should be submitted to the MSUG steering committee by midnight (EST) September 15th, 2019. At least one winning team member or individual must be able to join us at the MSUG conference to present their winning entry in order to be eligible. (Winning students will not be charged any fee to attend the conference.)

How:

Each team must have a faculty advisor who can certify the work submitted belongs to the submitting students. To register, please have your faculty advisor email simulationcompetition@m-sug.org with a list of team member names and contact information. You will receive a team number which will be required in the subject line of all contest submissions and further instructions for submitting your entry.

A panel of current MSUG members will evaluate the purpose, organization, detail, validity, and analysis associated with each submission to determine a winner. The winning entry will receive a cash award of $500 from MSUG.
